NERC warns discos against over-billing
The Nigerian Electricity Commission has warned no longer tolerate over distribution companies.
NERC Chairman Prof. James Momoh, who gave the warning weekend in Benin, Edo State, said the commission had put up measures in place to accelerate customers’ metering through regulatory means.
He said the present metering gap would be closed within the next three years with the effective implementation of the discos’ meter roll-out plan.
He appealed to customers to be patient in dealing with the discos on meter installation, saying that the commission would not sit back and watch the customers charged exorbitant bills for energy consumed or not consumed at all.
On his part, Governor Godwin Obaseki said poor power supply was hindering the economic vision of his government.
He called on the Benin Electricity Distribution Company to provide prepaid meters for electricity consumers and improve in its response to consumer complaints.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Philip Shaibu, said 219 transformers required replacement; while 195 communities were yet to be connected to the national grid.
