Al-Habibiyyah, Whitestone offer free dental, optical care to FCT residents

- By Abbas Jimoh

Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society (AIS) and Whitestone Dental Initiative (WDI) have offered free dental and optical services to 300 FCT residents.

The Director of AIS, Imam Fuad Adeyemi, said the essence of the twoday outreach for residents in Guzape, Kpaduma, Kobi and environs was in continuation of their humanitarian work as enjoined by Allah to take care of neighbours.

“We also discovered that many Nigerians don’t care about their dental health such that many don’t know how it is one of the important aspects of our lives such that Prophet Muhammad said he would have directed Muslims to be brushing their mouths five times daily.

“Secondly, we decided to create awareness and also solve the problem at the same time. We are going to improve on this outreach and this would be taken to other states too,” Adeyemi said.

On her part, the founder of Whitestone Dental Initiative, Macpherson Pamela, said the initiative was to create awareness to the people in the rural communities on the importance of dental health.

“Many have myopic views about dental care, such that when people have dental diseases, they resort to short cuts of ‘touch and go’ and the problem returns and becomes aggravated.

“We have reached many places and the impression of the people is that few of them would have dental issues, but when we began the numbers of people requiring dental care was surprising.

“It is important for the people to prioritise dental care since the mouth is the major source through where other liquids or solid materials pass into the body.
