Tributes pour in for late Hamman Tukur
Nigerians have continued to pay tributes to the former Chairman of Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Hamman Tukur, who died in Kaduna on Saturday at the age of 76.
Tukur, 24, 1942 born on January in Adamawa State, was at various times Rector, Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna, Managing Director of the defunct National Electricity Power Authority (NEPA), and permanent secretary at the federal ministries of power, steel, and petroleum, among others.
He is survived by a wife and children.
In a condolence message, President Muhammadu Buhari Nigeria lost an icon of credibility in late Tukur.
“Tukur’s passion for service should remind us that a good name is by far more important than illegal accumulation of wealth. History and posterity will judge everyone based on their character,” the president said, adding that Tukur’s enviable record of serving the country without blemish and living a life of sacrifice.
The National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, also paid a glowing tribute to Tukur, saying he stood firm and held to the ideals of professionalism and transparency while in office during the time of President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He said “though he was appointed by President Obasanjo in 1999, Tukur refused to be cowed in the discharge of his duties and implementation of the revenue allocation formula and other issues around revenue allocation.
“He left indelible marks at RMAFC, leading the way in resolving several disputed oil wells among states in the Niger Delta region and monitoring sources of revenue from both oil and non-oil sectors.”
