Police arrest motorcyclist for allegedly defrauding partner

- By Adam Umar

A commercial motorcyclist who operates in Kubwa, an Abuja suburb, has been arrested by the police in the area, for selling off a motorcycle entrusted to him by his business partner and fleeing with the money.

Umar Ibrahim, an indigene of ShikaZaria, Kaduna State, it was gathered, had succeeded in delivering N5,000 weekly balance to his master on two occasions before the master got the wind of what happened to his motorcycle.

The suspect had reportedly sold off the motorcycle for N170,000 and fled with the money to Kaduna State from where he made the second payment of N5,000 agreed weekly payment.

The suspect, who secured the motorcycle through a “hire purchase” arrangement at the rate of N420,000, decided to sell off the motorcycle five months into the agreement, after he secured its documents from the owner.

Umar, who spoke to our reporter at the Kubwa police division, yesterday, where he is currently being investigated, said he migrated to Tafa town along AbujaKaduna highway immediately after selling off the motorcycle and spent the money along with some friends.

“From there I visited my master for weekly balance on one occasion, while I paid the second one through a bank transfer before I was arrested by the police on Friday,” the suspect added.

Confirming the arrest, the Kubwa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Ayobami Surajudeen, revealed that many commercial motorcyclists were found to be complicit in reported cases of missing motorcycles entrusted to them on several occasions.

He added that the suspect would be taken to the court along with his accomplices after thorough investigation.
