Man kills mum, rapes corpse in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old man for allegedly killing his mother and raping the corpse.

It was gathered that the suspect, Samuel Akpobomen, who hails from Delta State, carried out the act last week in Ologbo community in Ipoba-Okah Local Government Area of Edo State.

Akpobomen was paraded by the state Police Commission­er, Babatunde Johson Kokumo, alongside 87 other suspects arrested for alleged involvemen­t in various crimes in the state.

It was learnt that Akpobomen killed his mother, identified as Gift Akpobomen and raped the corpse for money ritual as instructed by a ritualist who the police said is at large.

It was learnt that the suspect’s grandmothe­r who came to the house so that the deceased would accompany her to church caught him while raping the deceased and raised alarm that attracted the community.

Speaking with journalist­s, Akpobomen said a ritualist known as One Love instructed him to kill his mother and sleep with the corpse to become rich.

He said: “The ritualist told me that after having sex with the corpse, I should cut the ear and finger and bring them to him to perform the ritual. After sleeping with her, I was about to cut the parts when I was caught.

“My mother was sleeping, so I held her till she died. The man who instructed me sells Indian hemp in our area. I used to go there to see him but one day he put something in a drink and gave it to me to drink and told me to go and kill my mother,” he said.

One of the other 87 suspects paraded, Odion Jimoh, was also alleged to have killed a youth leader in his community for ritual.

He was said to have cut of the man’s head.

The incident was said to have happened at Ayogwiri community in Etsako West local government of Edo State.

The suspect was said to have traced the deceased to where he was contracted for work and killed him with a hoe before cutting off his head.

It was also learnt that after committing the act, the suspect absconded and hid in a church.

Speaking with journalist­s, the suspect said he didn’t have any problem with the suspect and that he didn’t know what came over him when he killed him.
