- By Abubakar Sadiq Isah

A 32 year old commercial cyclist, identified as Gimba Saidu, was robbed of his motorcycle at gunpoint in Dagiri village, Gwagwalada area council.

A resident, simply identified as Yahaya, said the incident happened at about 2:12 am yesterday after three young men, suspected to be motorcycle snatchers invaded the victim’s house in the area.

He said the motorcycle snatchers, who came with another motorcycle when neighbours were asleep shot into the air and forced the victim to open his door for them.

He said the victim woke up out of fear and opened the door for them and they asked him to handover the motorcycle keys to them.

“One of the thieves who was carrying a pistol threatened to shoot him if he refused to open his door for them and he did what they asked him to do for fear of being killed,” he said.

He said the victim bought the brand new motorcycle two weeks ago, as he decried reported cases of motorcycle snatching and house breaking in the area.

“In fact, we always have vigilante members around this area before but people suddenly stopped paying which I believe has been responsible for crime surge in Dagiri , “he said.

When contacted, the spokesman of the FCT police command, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, did not pick calls put across to him and also did not reply to a text message sent to his phone.
