Plateau United recruit 8 players, drop 4
The Plateau United Football Club of Jos has signed eight new players as the former Nigeria league champions intensify preparations for the kick-off of the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season next month.
The club has also dropped four players, while other four are on probation.
According to a statement by the Media Officer of the club, Albert Dakup, the decision is aimed at fortifying the team, as well as plugging areas that need to be fixed so as to mount a challenge for the league title next season.
Dakup explained that the new acquisitions who have started training with their new teammates are defenders, midfielders and a striker.
Daily Trust confirmed that some of the players recruited by the club include winger Bernard Ovoke, striker Salifu Oche both from Rivers United and central defender Timothy Danladi from Katsina United.
Dakup noted that the new players were recommended by the club’s scouts and the new Technical Adviser Abdul Isah Maikaba.
He clarified that four players have been dropped from the team due to various reasons ranging from low productivity, gross misconduct and indiscipline.
The Media Officer who noted that the four players who had their contracts terminated based on mutual consent have been paid all their entitlements including October salary.
Four other players have also been given warning letters to improve their performance and discipline or face the exit door.
