Good microeconomic mgt antidote to poverty - Agbakoba

- From Nurudeen Oyewole, Lagos

A former President of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and leader of the Third Force Movement, Olisa Agbakoba, says macroeconomic management can see 50 million Nigerians out of poverty in 48 months.

He said good macroeconomic management would expand the economy, create jobs, build up the power sector and infrastructure as well as diversify the economy.

Agbakoba, in a media chat with journalists in Lagos yesterday, said the need to liberate struggling Nigerians from the shackle of poverty had become expedient because with reduction in poverty rate, the country could regain its rightful place among comity of nations.

Agbakoba, who backed the call for the unbundling of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation as proposed by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, also called for the unbundling of the Central Bank of Nigeria to specifically address financial challenges in the country.
