CRIME ‘I was paid N20,000 for ‘safe keep’ of kidnap victims’

Like us on follow us on Twitter: A suspected member of a kidnap gang, Abubakar Saidu, said he was paid N20,000 for keeping kidnap victims in his custody.

Saidu was paraded by the police in Katsina State along with Adamu Haruna said to be his accomplice.

Speaking with journalist­s during his parade at the Katsina Police Headquarte­rs, Saidu who hails from Giwa in Kaduna State said he used to be a herder before taking to crime.

“In the past I reared animals for late Buhari for which he paid me with a cow yearly. After his death I joined the Kachalla group. I participat­ed in four operations as a guard of kidnap victims,” he said.

On how he got ammunition and bullets which the police reportedly found with him, Saidu said, “I don’t know those, I only woke up and found them on me, those who don’t like me put them on me.”

Earlier, the Commission­er of Police, Haruna Wakili, said “On 17/11/2018 at about 09:00hrs, men of the Safer High Way and Police Patrol Team attached to Batsari Division, Katsina State arrested the duo of, Abubakar Sa’idu, 20, of Giwa LGA of Kaduna State and Adamu Haruna, 25, of Illela village, Safana LGA also of Katsina State in possession of one empty shell of GPMG ammunition.”

He said in the course of investigat­ion, the suspects confessed to belonging to gangs of kidnappers/cattle rustlers operating in Birnin-Gwari forest and were invited to Rugu forest for their nefarious activities.
