When businesses are profitable, unemployment rate drops — Umoh

- By Victoria Onehi

Lead business consultant focused on small and medium enterprises and the CEO of Ekaville Enterprises, Mrs. Ekatte Umoh, has said when businesses are profitable the unemployment rate in the country will reduce.

Mrs. Umoh was speaking at a coaching session for entrepreneurs in Abuja on Tuesday, tagged: “Start, Scale and Sustain your Business”.

Mrs. Umoh said, “Because of the area I am very interested in; which is starting businesses and setting them up, I feel if we have more businesses that are profitable, they will be able to provide more employment and remove a lot of people from the unemployment line and poverty that we have sadly fallen into. That is why I am doing this. I am doing it for free so that all the businesses that attend the training become profitable. When they are profitable, they are able to employ and stop that poverty that we are known for.”

One of the entrepreneurs at the event, Precious Charles Mbat, said, “I have been so inspired by these sessions. I have learnt that even though I am competent at what I do, if I cannot make good sales at the end of the day, there is no profit. So, I will go back and re-strategise to see what I had not been doing well and why I had not been making the kind of sales I had been projecting. I need to become an aggressive marketer; I need to make my business to grow beyond myself.”
