Abdullahi hails Super Falcons on victory over Zambia

- By David Ngobua

A former Super Falcons assistant coach, Mansur Abdullahi has hailed the team on their resounding victory over the She-polopolo of Zambia at the ongoing Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Ghana.

The Falcons who suffered a shocking 0-1 loss in their opening match of the campaign against the Bayana Bayana of South Africa bounced back with a 4-0 win over Zambia yesterday in their second group B match in Cape Coast.

Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the Falconets assistant coach said Falcons’ victory over Zambia didn’t come to him as a surprise.

He said despite their 0-1 loss to South Africa, he didn’t lose any iota of confidence in the Super Falcons.

The former Warri coach also said the Wolves Falcons squad is made up of highly experienced players who can stand up to any opponent on the continent.

He, therefore, expressed happiness that the Falcons didn’t allow the momentary setback in their first match to deny them victory against Zambia.

“I want to commend the Super Falcons on their convincing win over Zambia. Having coached the team before, I am not surprised by their performance.

“The team has quality and can rise to the occasion especially when faced with any serious challenge. Although they lost to South Africa, I still believed they would bounce back today (yesterday),” he said.

Abdullahi therefore tasked the Falcons to build on their victory over Zambia as they prepare for their last group match against Equatorial Guinea.

He said they must stay focused, if they are to win their 9th AWCON title.

“The victory calls for celebration but I want them to move on from there. There are more matches to play so they should stay focused.

“I believe they know the importance of victory in their last group match with Equatorial Guinea. They need to win to reach to progress,” he advised.
