Agbaji relishes ‘birthday gift’ as Lobi Stars win Super Cup
The captain of Lobi Stars, Anthony Agbaji is on cloud nine following his team’s 1-0 victory over Enugu Rangers in this year’s Super Cup.
The match played between the league winners and Aiteo Cup Champions at the Late Stephen keshi stadium Asaba on Tuesday marked the end of the 2018 football season.
In a chat with Daily Trust, the hard tackling defender said the victory in the Super Cup is a befitting birthday gift for him from his team mates.
He said the victory couldn’t have come at a better time as he maintained that he won’t ask for more from his colleagues.
Agbaji who is one of the longest serving players in Lobi Stars also said they used the match to finetune preparations for their CAF Champions League preliminary round match with USM de Loum of Cameroon.
He said “I am excited by our victory in the Super Cup against Enugu Rangers. It was not an easy match but we came out victorious.
“For me, this is a befitting birthday gift from my team-mates. I asked for it from them and they obliged me accordingly.
“I am grateful to each and every one of them. I will savour this very birthday for a long time because I received a suitable gift.
“It is also a thing of joy that we would be going into our CAF Champions League match in high spirit. Our victory over a star-studded side like Rangers is an indication that we are ready for the continental challenge,” he said.
