SGF harps on CEOs, board members harmony
Board members of government parastatals and agencies have been enjoined to work harmoniously with the chief executives of their agencies for their organizations to deliver on their mandates.
A statement from the acting Head, Strategic Communication Department, Bureau for Public Service Reform BPSR, Aliyu Umar, said the Secretary of the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, gave the advice recently at the Batch Two induction programme for Chairmen/ members of Governing Boards of Government parastatals and agencies in Abuja.
The SGF, represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services office, Barr. Olusegun Adekunle, said the advice had become imperative as his office had been inundated with complaints over squabbles between board members and chief executives of their parastatals and agencies and warned that the situation has to be amicably resolved by the fending parties as both parties were set up by government to deliver good governance to the citizenry.
He therefore called on the board members not to unduly interfere in the day to day activities of their respective parastatals and agencies or issue directives to staff without recourse to the Chief Executive officers of their agencies.
While reminding the board members that they could articulate perceived infractions and investigate wrong doings of Chief Executives officers, such recommendations had to be forwarded to Government through the supervising Ministries of those Agencies and warned that the governing boards had no powers to suspend or remove any Chief Executive appointed by the President.
The SGF noted that the induction programme was aimed at equipping the members for optimal discharge of their responsibilities in respective organizations and to give the members a clearer picture of government expectations from them as the current administration continues to strive to deliver on her campaign promises that centered on security, anticorruption and economic growth.
