PDP considers proposals for campaign funding, others

- By Saawua Terzungwe

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is the second highest decision-making organ of the party, would meet tomorrow to consider proposal for campaign funding and membership of the Presidential Campaign Council.

Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State is Chairman of the Fund Raising Committee.

The party is yet to fully constitute its PCC for the 2019 general elections, despite the lift of ban on campaigns by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Party bigwigs, who spoke with our correspondent last night, said the meeting would discuss and approve how the party would raise funds and prepare grounds for smooth state to state electioneering campaigns.

One of the sources who pleaded not to be mentioned said, “Our meeting of Tuesday will dwell solely on 2019. It is going to be a forum where we shall brainstorm on critical issues that will shape our chances of winning 2019 convincingly.”

He said the date for the commencement of presidential campaign would also be discussed and approved by NEC.

Another chieftain of the party from the South said the party was being meticulous in the process of constituting members of the Campaign Council in order to ensure balance and to pacify some aggrieved party members and aspirants who lost the primaries at various levels with appointments.

The PDP had in a statement on October 15, appointed Senate President Bukola Saraki as the Director General of its Presidential Campaign Council and six Zonal Campaign Coordinators, but did not appoint members of the Council.
