Race for Katsina speakership heightens
The race for who becomes the next Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly has heightened as no fewer than five persons have been penciled for the post, Daily Trust reports.
The slot may become open this week as it is being speculated that the present Speaker, Yahaya Kusada, may get his certificate of return ahead of his movement to the House of Representatives to represent Ingawa/ Kusada/Kankia.
Kusada won the recently conducted Ingawa/Kusada/Kankia by-election following the election of the former member to the Senate.
The top contenders are Nasir Yahaya (Daura), Tasi’u Musa (Zango), Sani Lawal (Baure), Sirajo Sani (Sandamu), and Aliyu Muduru (Mani).
Daily Trust gathered that high politicking and scheming were currently going in the assembly, as well as in the social media, just as several pressure groups are coming out on why certain persons are best fit for the job.
Although the Daura Zone, which the speakership slot was zoned to, has 12 local government areas, those from other zones under the Daura Emirate Council are insisting on producing the speaker.
Our reporter further learnt that some powerful members of the assembly are not keen on narrowing it there, but to the zone as a whole, so as to pave way for their preferred candidates.
