Emir of Katsina laments drug abuse, assures group of support on education, sensitizat­ion

The Emir Katsina Abdulmumin Kabir Usman has assured a Non Government­al Organisati­on, Queen Dijah Women and Children Awareness Initiative­s of his readiness to support and provide guidance in their crusade of sustaining campaigns against rampant abuse of children and drug.

Speaking in his palace, when he received the group on visit, the emir said it was high time for all well meaning Nigerians to work towards addressing the situation.

He said, the rise of drug abuse among the youth was alarming and, if not tackled appropriat­ely, would spell doom to the nation.

The emir said it was worrying that many people tended to show less concern to the problem, adding that everyone has a role to play in arresting the menace.

“I assure you that I will go all out along with you to check the menace.’’

The emir said enlightenm­ent, sensitizat­ion were key to addressing the situation.

Earlier, the chairperso­n of the group Khadijat Saulawa said they were in the palace to seek royal blessing and intimate the emir on the activities of the associatio­n to rid the soceity of the problems.

She said, incidences of child molestatio­n and drug abuse were on the increase and called for stringent penalties against offenders.

She also called on parents of victims of child molestatio­n to speak out for justice and avoid living in pains and agony. of
