Yobe spends N111.2bn on roads, bridges

The ad­min­is­tra­tion of Yobe State Gov­er­nor Ibrahim Gaidam spent N111,261,279,966.00 to con­struct 1,272 kilo­me­tres of roads and bridges.

The Com­mis­sioner for Works, Trans­port and En­ergy, Shet­tima Lawan Ali, dis­closed this in Da­maturu yes­ter­day at the min­is­te­rial brief­ing to high­light Gaidam’s ad­min­is­tra­tion’s achieve­ments.

“The lead­er­ship of our ami­able gov­er­nor has from 2007 to date con­structed 1,272 km of roads as well as over 10 bridges, 342km, across the state at cost im­pli­ca­tion of N111,261,279,966.00,” he said.

He said the state ex­ec­u­tive coun­cil had in sep­a­rate meet­ings awarded ad­di­tional con­tracts for the con­struc­tion of roads and drainage ex­pected in four months.

He said: “The con­struc­tion of roads and drainage in 3 gen­eral hospi­tals of Gaidam, Gashua and Po­tiskum awarded amount to N1,403,391,822.59; while the roads within Da­maturu me­trop­o­lis are at the cost of 7,703,788,747.77,”.

The com­mis­sioner said the gov­ern­ment had also ex­e­cuted pro­jects in ru­ral elec­tri­fi­ca­tion, fire ser­vice and the state’s trans­port co­op­er­a­tion.
