5 re­manded in prison for al­legedly beat­ing man to death

Mem­bers of a five-man gang, who al­legedly beat one Ibrahim Yusuf, 40 to death, were on Fri­day re­manded at the Ikoyi Prisons on the or­ders of an Ebute Meta Mag­is­trates’ Court in Lagos.

The mag­is­trate, Mrs O. Ku­sanu, or­dered that the sus­pects should re­main be­hind bars, pend­ing an out­come of le­gal ad­vice from the state Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tion (DPP).

The ac­cused - Is­maila Amadu, 30; Mo­hammed Awalu, 25; Ibrahim Mo­hammed, 27; Mo­hammed Bello, 30; and Amadu Mo­hammed, 20, are stand­ing trial on a twocount charge of con­spir­acy and mur­der. Their plea was not taken and the case was ad­journed un­til Feb. 12 for ad­vice.

Ear­lier, the prose­cu­tor, Insp. Jimah Iseghede, had told the court that the ac­cused com­mit­ted the of­fences on Jan. 7 at Tin can Is­land, Apapa. Iseghede al­leged that the five ac­cused had con­spired and used a belt to beat Yusuf, to death. (NAN)
