Accord woos APC to dislodge Wike in Rivers

- By Abbas Jimoh

The governorship candidate of Accord (A) party in the March 9 governorship election in Rivers State, Dumo Lulu Briggs, has said that his party will partner with the APC in Rivers State to boost its strength to defeat incumbent Governor Nyesom Wike.

He told newsmen, yesterday, in Abuja that though Accord had the capacity to win the election on its own, the victory would be landslide if they could get the support of APC.

The Supreme Court had foreclosed APC’s chances of fielding candidates in Rivers State after protracted legal battle over primaries by two factions of the party.

Briggs said it would be good for the APC to join forces with Accord to facilitate the return of President Muhammadu Buhari at the centre and dislodgement of Wike in Rivers.

“We are not endorsing Buhari because we are expecting anything in return but because we believe in the good work that the president is doing.

“Therefore, we want him to have a second term; but whether the APC will collapse their structure and support the Accord, it is up to them.

“However, we wish they will do that…Discussions should be ongoing in that regard as a matter of fact, but I can tell you that Accord is very strong in Rivers to win that election, forget what you see on the television screen, the bigger they come, the harder they fall,” he said.

Briggs who chided Governor Wike over his alleged poor strategy to governance, said the state was in its lowest ebb.
