Gunmen kill APC chieftain in Benue
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State, Boniface Okloho, has been killed by gunmen.
Our correspondent gathered that the deceased was killed on Friday night, eve of the postponed presidential and National Assembly elections in Ohimini while he was on his way back home from an event.
APC’s publicity secretary in the state, James Orgunga, confirmed the killing, saying that the party would speak about the murder after its scheduled meeting.
“The APC chairman of Ohimini LGA, Boniface Okloho, was assassinated on the election eve,” Orgunga said.
The police spokesman in the state, DSP Moses Joel Yamu, in a statement on Sunday also confirmed the killing.
“The Benue Police Command wishes to report that, on Saturday, 12:05am, one Boniface Okloho, 37, who was the Party Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ohimini LGA, was shot in the stomach along Ijamin Road, Otukpo, by yetto-be identified person(s), while he was returning from a political meeting.
“He was confirmed dead at the hospital and the corpse deposited at the morgue,” the statement read in part.
Yamu also indicated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Omololu Bishi, has ordered immediate investigation into the incident with a view to bringing perpetrator(s) to book, while warning politicians and their supporters against acts of violence in the coming elections.
