On postponement of General Elections
It has happened before, and for precisely the same reasons - late delivery of election materials from overseas suppliers and then to polling units across the country. Despite the disruption to the lives of Nigerians caused by the postponement of the General Elections and its damage to Nigeria’s image, INEC should be given the benefit of the doubt. It’s a matter of regret that we outsource the printing of the national currency, passports, electoral materials, etc, even though the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC) has been around since Independence. Expectedly, the two leading parties, APC and PDP, have been trading accusations over responsibility for the postponement of the elections: one alleging foreign interference, the other Executive arm-twisting. Neither party has advanced verifiable reasons for its claim, but one thing is certain should APC use the intervening period to procure another (Court of Appeal) judgement ordering the inclusion of its Zamfara state candidates in the General Elections, then the postponement will be seen as politically motivated.
M T Usman, aboumahmud@yahoo.com government for 16years, Malam Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufa’i did his best for my home state Kaduna. For many years our primary and secondary schools were not in good shape until after the emergence of the current administration in 2015. Governor ElRufa’i did his best to restore the education of our children back to its former glory. He has political will, wit and courage that Kaduna State is in dire need of in order to salvage it. He also has genuine intention to work even though his approach is elitist. So, El-Rufai has my vote, hopefully he would complete the good work he has started. He’s the best in the present circumstances as he is better than Isa Ashiru Kudan.
