Bayelsa: PDP, APC share Senate, Reps seats
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won two of the three Senate seats in Bayelsa State, leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) with the remaining one.
Of the five slots in the House of Representatives, both parties won two each while the result for Ogbia Federal constituency is being awaited.
The results declared in Yenagoa on Wednesday by the INEC Returning Officer, Professor Teddy Adias, showed that Diri Douye of PDP won Bayelsa Central Senatorial seat with 83,978 votes, while his closest rival, Mr Festus Daumiebi of APC, polled 70, 998 votes.
Adias put the total votes cast during the election at 163, 587; with 155, 874 valid and 7,713 rejected votes.
Douye, who currently represents Yenagoa/ Kolokuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency, thanked the people of the district for his victory, pledging to “continue the good work.”
Lawrence Ewrudjiakpo, also of the PDP, defeated Matthew Karimo of APC to clinch the Bayelsa West Senatorial District.
In Bayelsa East, however, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremenyo of the APC defeated Blessing Izakara of PDP to emerge winner.
For the House of Representatives, Preye Oseke of APC defeated the incumbent Speaker of Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mr Konbowei Benson of PDP to win Southern-Ijaw Federal Constituency.
Whereas Oseke polled 56,804 votes, Benson got 34,105 votes.
Meanwhile, Professor Steve Azaiki and Fred Agbedi, both of PDP won Yenagoa/ Kolokuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency and Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency respectively.
