Police begin manhunt for killers of Oyo rep
The Oyo State Police Command says it has begun a manhunt for the killer of Temitope Olatoye, member representing Akiyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency of Oyo State.
The spokesman of the command, Olugbenga Fadeyi, told journalists yesterday that the Criminal Investigative Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan, was investigating the killing.
Olatoye, who was shot in the eye Saturday evening after the governorship and state assembly polls, died at the intensive care unit of the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
“As at now, no arrest has been made, but the CID has taken over the case and they are working in compliance with the directive of the IGP that those perpetrators should be immediately arrested. They have swung into action to make sure that they arrest all the perpetrators.
“The state Commissioner of Police was even on air and stated categorically that it was purely a murder case and the CID is investigating to unravel the mystery behind the killing. The police are on the trail of all the miscreants and they will soon arrest all of them,” Fadeyi said.
Governor Abiola Ajimobi, in a statement by his Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy, Bolaji Tunji, commiserated with the families of Olatoye and others killed in the elections, assuring that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
He warned that the state government would not allow any individual or group to truncate the hard-fought peace and security that the state had enjoyed in the last eight years.
Ajimobi, who urged the security agencies to redouble their efforts towards saving lives and property, said: “Nobody’s ambition should be worth the blood or life of any citizen. I’m, therefore, appalled that some unscrupulous politicians and their followers have turned this contest into a do-ordie affair, which is alien to democratic norms in saner climes.”
