My re-election divine – Okowa
Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has said his re-election came by the will of God and the resilience of Deltans.
Speaking yesterday at a thanksgiving service at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him winner, he said: “We began the campaign here at the Government House Chapel with prayer and fasting for three days. We have continually resorted to prayers throughout the course of the campaigns.
“I want to specially appreciate my leader, former governor of Delta state, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, “who kept asking me rhetorically in pidgin “Ifeanyi where dem wan pass?”
“Twelve INEC offices were burnt across the state and the trend of violence became very worrisome that some of our leaders came for to me to express their amxieties. But we thank God that all that are now history.
“Their plots to bring in thugs were botched. Someone called me personally that he was hired to bring in 200 thugs but had to decline the offer. They had prepared results to declare but they did not know how to go about it.
“Now, we shall connect more with the people. I seek partnership and cooperation with all Deltans. We need a peaceful state to move the state forward and everyone will have a role to play.”
Okowa commended the INEC for its commitment to delivering on free, fair and credible elections in the state.
