‘Girls should get quality education’
Executive Director of Youngstars Foundation Kingsley Bangwell has said authorities should increase effort to give women and girls access to quality education.
He made the remark during the launch of the Female and More (FAM) programme to mark the 2019 International Women’s Day (IWD) in Abuja. He said giving women access to quality education would make them break away from poverty.
He said lack of access to education was a major challenge to girls in Africa which authorities must deal with, adding that quality knowledge would develop the employability skills of girls.
“If girls are not going to school, it means that they are not going to have livelihood skills to get jobs and earn a living. And they won’t have the opportunity to get the resources to get out of endemic poverty which women in Africa face. So, access not just to education but to quality education should be a priority to females of every nation,” Bangwell said.
He said FAM was a self-esteem and leadership initiative that was increasing females’ self-esteem, promoting women equity and harnessing females’ innate leadership capabilities “for women to reach their fullest leadership potentials in any chosen field of endeavor.”
