Five alleged Internet fraudsters remanded in Ibadan, Ilorin

Five alleged Internet fraudsters, arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ibadan, Oyo State and Ilorin, Kwara state have been remanded in prisons.

Four of the defendants were arraigned before Justice P. I. Ajoku of the Federal High Court, Ibadan.

The defendants are Adebimpe Babajide Quadri, Olajide Timileyin, Olubayo Oluwaseyi and Afolabi Wasiu.

Quadri was arraigned on a twocount charge bordering on intent to defraud and obtaining by false pretense, while Timileyin’s threecount charge bordered on intent to defraud, obtaining by false pretense and possession of fake documents.

Also, Oluwaseyi (aka Rachel Micah) and Wasiu were arraigned on seven-count and eight-count charges respective­ly.

Oluwaseyi was accused to have knowingly sent pornograph­ic and indecent pictures with racheleric­k20@gmail.com to one Erick C. Berge and thereby committed an offense to Section 24 (1) (a) and punishable under Section 24 (1) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibitio­n, Prevention Etc) Act 2015.”

Quadri and Oluwaseyi are expected in court on March 19 for bail applicatio­n hearing, while their trial comes up on May 7 and Adebimpe’s case was adjourned to April 15 and Wasiu’s next appointmen­t is March 20.

All the suspects are to remain in prison custody till their respective adjourned dates.

In Ilorin, Kwara State, the antigraft agency arraigned one Ajayi Temitope Charles at the State High Court on a five count charge on internet fraud.

Charles (aka Teresa Simon), who pleaded not guilty to all the charges before Justice M. Abdulgafar on Wednesday, was allegedly caught with documents in his possession with intent to defraud unsuspecti­ng members of the public.

In the first count against him, it was said that on February 28 in Ilorin, he had in his possession document in his Gmail account containing false pretence, with intent to defraud, and thereby committed an offence contrary to sections 6, and 8 (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and other related offences.

It was also said that the accused person had in his possession document titled, Hangout with Rodney Dean, and Hangout with Paul Thompson, which he printed from his Gmail account.
