Emir of Ningi visits, commiserates with community attacked by hoodlums
Emir of Ningi,Alhaji Yunusa Danyaya has visited Diwa village of Burra district in Ningi emirate to commiserate with the people over a recent invasion by an organised criminal gang known as “Yan Bula” or “Ba Beli.”
The village was said to have been invaded on a market day about a fortnight ago leading to a confrontation between members of the community and the invaders who came on several motorcycles carrying dangerous weapons.
Members of the community were said to have repelled the attack while about 10 people were injured and several weapons were sized from the attackers.
Addressing people of the community during his visit, the emir while sympathising with members of the community cautioned them against taking laws into their hands and enjoined them to report any security threat to the appropriate authorities.
Emir Danyaya noted that while communities have the right to defend themselves they must not carry out jungle justice on anybody.
“We all understand the trauma you people went through and we sympathize with you over the ugly incident when some armed hoodlums, about 700 of them riding over 300 motorcycles came to attack your community,” he said.
He advised that, instead of people taking laws into their hands or launching reprisals in case of attacks they should use
dialogue to resolve issues.
“I, therefore, urge you not to take law into your hands by shunning jungle justice and evils reprisals all you need is to defend your territories, properties and lives.
“If some hoodlums come to attack the community quickly alert the security agencies and government for them to take up the issue. If communities resort to taking the laws into their own hands, it will not work. That is not the solution,’’ he added.
The emir assured that, traditional leaders, Emirs, District Head, Village head and wards head will continue to collaborate with security agencies, and religious institutions to build peace and protect the lives and properties of people in communities.
He warned that traditional leaders, the state government and security agencies will not fold their arms while some few miscreants undermine law and order in communities.
“We will continue to give all the necessary support and cooperation to security agencies to enable them confront the present security challenges facing our communities. Your position is to defend yourselves but not a reprisal, I believe the communities have all the competence to defend,” he added.
He commended the security agencies in the area for their prompt response to the attack on the community.
He also commended the people for reporting the incidence to the security on time which led to their quick intervention.
The Emir assured that necessary measures would be taken to forestall further occurrence.
The Area Commander, Ningi Area Command, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Murtala Idris urged the Communities to always report any suspicious movement of strangers or people with criminal tendencies in their areas.
