Group urges peaceful resolution of Kogi govt, judiciary face-off

- From Itodo Daniel Sule, Lokoja

A group, Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello (GYAB) Movement has called for an amicable resolution of the ongoing faceoff between Kogi State Judiciary and the state government in the interest of the progress of the state.

Chairman of the group, Alhaji Ibrahim Raji, and Secretary General, Comrade Onusi Abdullateef at a press conference in Lokoja said the call became imperative given the suffering of judiciary workers who have not been paid their salaries for over seven months now following the impasse.

The group noted that it was gladening that the Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello recently stated that the said accumulated salaries of the workers was intact, and called for speedy resolution of the crisis.

While thanking the state government and the leadership of judiciary for the maturity displayed so far, the group, however, advised that there should be room for give and take in the true spirit of collective bargaining.

The group cautioned that the crisis was capable of undermining the gains recorded so far by the administration in the areas of security of lives and property, comprehensive healthcare service and all other infrastructural development going on across the state.

“The Governor as the father of the state must be willing to make some sacrifice, while the leadership of the judiciary must also be ready to make some concession. We are however in touch with the two groups already and we are optimistic that reasons will prevail,” the group said.
