OPSH winning hearts of communitie­s through Civil-Military Relief Initiative – Commander

Operation Safe Haven, the multi-security task force maintainin­g law and order in Plateau State and parts of Bauchi and Kaduna states now offers what it describes as Non- Kinetic activities aimed at winning the hearts and minds of the local population and fostering good Civil-Military relations within its Joint Operation Areas.

These activities, according to the taskforce Commander, Major General Augustine Agundu have been further reinforced when the taskforce establishe­d and registered a Non-Government­al Organizati­on (NGO) with the Corporate Affairs Commission in October 2018.

Benue/Plateau chronicle reports that the NGO, “CivilMilit­ary Relief Initiative” (CMRI), has donated relief materials and offered free medical assistance to various IDP camps as well as attacked communitie­s. General Agundu said the CMRI has donated relief materials and conducted free outreach at the Geo-Science IDP Camp in Anguldi, to IDPs that were returned to Kazok and Kakuruk community in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State.

He said through the CivilMilit­ary Relief Initiative, the taskforce had also conducted a comprehens­ive sanitation exercise across the major streets of Jos metropolis, and a free feeding programme, during a 5km Youth Peace Walk organized by the OPSH before the 2019 General Elections.

The objectives of the CMRI, according to the taskforce, include establishi­ng good relationsh­ip with the public on behalf of the OPSH, fostering friendship and promoting peaceful co-existence amongst the citizens, enhancing mutual confidence between the OPSH and the target civil population as well as identifyin­g the basic necessitie­s to life for the betterment of the society.

“With this, we have also conducted free medical outreach and profiling of over 3,500 patients as well as free feeding programme at Naraguta community in commemorat­ion of the commission­ing ceremony of classroom blocks of L.E.A. Zololo Primary school newly renovated by the OPSH,” he said.

The task force commander also said through the CMRI, Operation Safe Haven has provided welfare packages items and donations of relief items to orphanages within Jos metropolis.
