- From Balarabe Alkassim, Bauchi

The Bauchi State chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has raised the alarm over continued extrajudicial killing of its members by a group known as Yan Ba Beli across the state.

Speaking at the funeral of two of the latest victims of the extra-judicial killing in Bauchi yesterday, the Bauchi State Secretary of the association, Sadiq Ibrahim Ahmed, said that their members were being killed by members of the notorious group in the state.

He said about 10 members had been killed in the last two weeks.

Ahmed disclosed that the latest victims were the former chairman of MACBAN in Bauchi local government, Jafaru Shanka and Musa Mokawu, both residents of Yolan Bayara, a community few kilometres from Bauchi metropolis.

The two victims killed were buried at Bayara Muslim Cemetery after a funeral prayer.

The association said the two people were allegedly abducted at the palace of the village head after they were invited for a meeting and that their corpses were later recovered from the bush with gunshot and machete wounds.

He said despite the reports of atrocities perpetrated by members of the group, no concrete action had been taken to bring their activities to an end.

According to him, members of the group operate on motorcycles, storming markets and abducting their victims.

He warned that if the group is not tackled, it will pose a great security threat in the state.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Bauchi State Police Command, DSP Kamal Datti Abubakar, said he was not aware of the incidence.

He however acknowledged that there have been reported cases of the activities of Yan Ba Beli and the police had been making arrests. “Many have been taken to court for prosecution,” he said.
