Katsina Utd win 2019 NPFL/LaLiga U-15 title

The Katsina United U-15 side have won the 2019 edition of the NPFL/LaLiga U-15 competitio­n played in Abuja yesterday.

United, who were runnersup in the first edition in 2017, capped their excellent run in the competitio­n this year, with a 1-0 win over their Kwara United opponents.

To reach the final, Katsina United defeated Gombe United 3-1, beat Lobi Stars 2-2, pummeled ABS 6-0, AND Kano Pillars 3-0 in the first group stage of the competitio­n.

At the second group stage, the team defeated Akwa United 4-0, and drew 0-0 with Delta Force to reach the semifinal, where they overpowere­d Sunshine Stars 1-0 before beating Kwara United 1-0 in the final to lift the trophy.

Besides emerging champions of the competitio­n, Katsina United also won two of the awards that were available.

The club’s attacking sensation, Abdulrashe­ed with 5 goals was adjudged the second highest goals scorer of the tournament, while goalkeeper Abubakar Usain also won the second best goalkeeper of the tournament award.

In his reaction, club chairman Aminu Balele Kurfi commended the boys for winning the title in their second time of asking, saying he expects the club to soon start enjoying the benefits of participat­ing in the competitio­n by deploying some of the players to the main team of Katsina United.

Kurfi, who also commended Governor Aminu Bello Masari for his continued support to the club, informed that 80 percent of the team that placed second in the first edition of the league have graduated to the Katsina United team B.
