Youth should be job providers, not seekers — iCreate

-

The Chief Executive Officer of an NGO, iCreate Skills, Mr. Bright Jaja, has urged Nigerian youths to harness their acquired skills and train others to help tackle unemployment in the country.

Mr. Jaja made the call on Saturday in a speech at the second day of a skills competition and second edition of iCreates’s Technical and Vocational Skills competition in Kaduna.

The NGO’s skills annual competition, which promotes skills excellence, showcases skills, new technologies and best practices is designed to meet the skills demand by Nigeria and Africa at large.

The last day of the event showcased the skills of young Nigerians with encouragement to compete across various industries, including building, construction, creative arts, fashion and social services.

“I am calling on the youths to use their skills to mentor others; by doing so, the rate of unemployment will be reduced.

“Ignore what people will always say about the skill you have passion in; as much as it is legitimate, do it; become a master in it, achieve it,” Jaja added.

In a testimony by winners of the 2018 competition, they expressed willingness to utilise their victory in moving technical and vocational skills foreword.

A trainer with Haptics, Mr. Timothy Bamidele, who delivered a lecture on the use of Google digital skills, stressed the need for internet use to enhance businesses and skills.

“We are empowering the youths and the participants of this event with digital knowledge; this will help them market their vocational skills.

“The world has turned into a global village, whatever skills you have, you can sell and attract people via the internet; you can connect with your clients online and sell your products.

“We want youths to have digital backup for their vocational skills, it will help sell their ideas across the world,” Bamidele said. (NAN)
