Ahmed predicts bright future for golf in Nigeria
The immediate past captain of the IBB Golf and Country Club Abuja, Oseni Ahmed has predicted a bright future for the game of golf in Nigeria as he said talented young golfers are emerging from all over the country.
Speaking during his farewell press interaction, the golf enthusiasts said IBB Golf Club is playing a leading role in development of young players.
He said the ‘catch them young’ policy introduced by the club had contributed a great deal in raising youngsters who are already showing signs of greatness in the sport.
Ahmed also said it will take a while for Nigeria to feature prominently at the Olympics but there are great prospects of the country doing well even at that level in the future.
The game of golf will be returning to the Olympics at the 2020 games in Tokyo.
The former captain therefore called on all stakeholders in the game to continue to give unflinching support to the game of golf in Nigeria.
He said, “We are not doing too badly because Nigerians are beginning to appreciate golf. We have made progress to the point that you will be amazed at what even the younger ones do in this club.
“We are catching them young and I think not too far from now, Nigeria will do very well in world golf. Our club is doing very well. There is a young girl we sponsored to Botswana and she did very well.
“We may not necessarily come tops at the Olympics for now, but in the near future, that too will happen. The game of golf is not doing badly in Nigeria,” he reiterated.
