Abia Warriors win 4-2 at Heartland as Lobi pip Rangers 1-0 dislodge Enyimba

Relegation threatened Abia Warriors recorded a massive way win yesterday after they walloped neighbours Heartland FC 4-2 in Owerri just as Lobi Stars defeated hard fighting Enugu Rangers 1-0 to move to second position in Group A.

The week 19 matches played yesterday recorded six home victories, three draws and two away victories with the most surprising away win coming in Maiduguri where Delta Force defeated ElKanemi Warriors 2-0.

In the six-goal thriller in Owerri, the home side opened scoring in the 11th minute through Nnamdi Egbujor but the visitor snatched the day from the ‘millionair­es’ when Ibrahim Olawoyin scored a brace in the 24th and 59th minute.

Jimoh Oni made it three for Abia Warriors in the 68th minute, Fatai Abdullahi increased the tally to four in the 86th minute before Heartland cut the deficit again in the 7th minute of the final added time to end 4-2.

In Makurdi, ten man Lobi Stars stood firm to edge Rangers 1-0 to move to the second place following Enyimba’s 1-1 draw at home against Wikki Tourists.

Plateau United recovered for a shocking early goal scored by Anas Yusuf in the 2nd minute to win 2-1 in Jos with Oche Odoba and Kabiru scoring a goal each for the home side.

In Kano, Pillars strolled past struggling Go Round 2-0, Akwa United beat relegated Yobe Stars 1-0 in Uyo to maintain their leadership of group B, Remo Stars forced MFM to 1-1 draw in Lagos and Insurance humbled Katsina United 2-1 in Benin.

In other matches played yesterday, Sunshine stars defeated Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in Akure just as the tie between Kwara United and Rivers United in Ilorin ended in a 0-0 draw.

Kano Pillars are now second in group B as ElKanemi Warriors’ home loss has taken them down to third.
