Guber poll: Bayelsa politicians prepared for war – Govt

- From Bassey Willie, Yenagoa

Ahead of the November governorship election in Bayelsa State, the state government has raised the alarm that some politicians in the state are prepared for war to grab power at all costs at the expense of people’s lives.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel IworisoMarkson, said the government was hoping that during the election, there would be no casualty as witnessed in the previous elections.

He spoke in Yenogoa yesterday while receiving the leadership of the Federated Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in his office.

He said: “We are going into a very crucial election and we will need the support of the media in the state to have free and credible poll.

“The eye of the world will be focused on Bayelsa, but what we want to avoid is a situation where the whole state is thrown into chaos as a result of election because some politicians are prepared for war in order to grab power at all costs at the expense of lives of our people.”
