Uke community pleads with AEDC to restore its electricity

- From Ibraheem Hamza Muhammad, Lafia

The leader of Uke in Karshi Development Area of Karu Local Government, Nasarawa State, Mr. Kyauta Danjuma, has appealed for light to be restored to the community.

He said the electricity supply in the area had become epileptic since some unidentified persons stole some cables in the transformer.

“The community raised money and bought a transformer and armoured cables for AEDC to improve light in the community but we are now running into the third month without light and the company is not concerned,” the local chief said.

Mr. Danjuma also decried overbilling of residents, saying since they did not have prepaid metres, they were paying outrageous sums of money every month.

He said some residents who live in a one bedroom apartment pay up to N5, 000 per month even when the light is rationed with two days on and five days off in a week.

He added that those who live in two bedroom flats pay as high as N10, 000.

He said his people are worried for the lack of light, over-billing, lack of maintenance of the equipment among others.

The community leader called on the authorities of the AEDC and the local and state government to intervene.
