Sanusi thumbs up Flying Eagles, Falconets on AAG success
The General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi has commended the Flying Eagles and the Falconets on their recent achievements in the just concluded All Africa Games in Morocco.
While the female team, the Falconets defeated Cameroon 3-2 on penalties to win gold, their male counterparts, the Flying Eagles settled for silver after losing 0-2 to Burkina Faso in the men’s finals.
Speaking to Daily Trust yesterday, the football administrator said the target was to win two gold medals but he is grateful to God for the gold and silver that were won by the football teams.
“I must say that we wanted to win gold medals in the men and women events but as God would have it, we ended with one gold and one silver which to mind is commendable.
“We are not the only country that took part in the football events. We gave a very good account of ourselves in Morocco. The teams have tried. We have to prepare for next Games so
that we would win the gold medal in both events, that is male and female football,” he said.
Sanusi also attributed the success of the teams in Morocco to the combined effort of the football federation and the ministry of youth and sports.
He said while the federation was responsible for preparing the teams, the ministry provided the funding.
“As a federation, we tried our best and the Ministry of sports also contributed their own quota. It was a tripartite arrangement.
“The NFF and the ministry of sports put heads together to arrive at this success story. The ministry charged us with the responsibility and we were able to deliver.
“The federation is charged with the responsibility of preparing the team while the ministry provides the funding. All Africa Games is a ministry of sports events,” he stated.
