Zulum meets Bande, Amina, Lowcock over humanitarian needs
Taking advantage of his invitational visit to a side event at the UN General Assembly, Borno’s Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has held high level meetings at the United Nations headquarters, all of which focused on addressing humanitarian needs and the restoration of livelihoods in communities affected by boko haram attacks in his state.
Alongside his special adviser and coordinatorforsustainabledevelopment partnership and humanitarian support, Dr Mairo Mandara, the Borno Governor met separately with President of UN General Assembly, Prof. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande; the UN Deputy Secretary, Amina Mohammed; the UN under-secretary general for humanitarian affairs, also coordinator for emergency relief, Mark Lowcock as well as Mr Neal Kenny Guyer who is chief executive officer of Mercy Corps, a global humanitarian organisation.
In all the meetings, Governor Zulum sought improved support on addressing humanitarian needs and livelihoods for thousands of citizens displaced by insurgent attacks in different parts of Borno State. The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to discharging its responsibilities to citizens and enabling continued support from the UN and credible humanitarian bodies outside the UN.
Governor Zulum also used visit to the UN headquarters to establish new relationships and build on existing contacts with officials dealing with humanitarian activities around the world.
