Abductors of NSCDC officials demand N6m

The kidnappers of Mr. Albert Eguavoen, the Irrua divisional commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have demanded N6 million as ransom.

It was gathered that the kidnappers made the demand after opening negotiatio­ns with relatives of the NSCDC officer.

Since he was abducted on Friday, a combined team of NSCDC, police and army have been combing the bushes to ensure his release.

It also gathered that Eguavoen was abducted alongside Francis Okunwe, who is attached to the Area Commander of the Edo-North Area Command office on Friday afternoon around Ewossa area in Edo-Central senatorial district of the state.

The kidnappers was said to have allowed Eguavoen to speak with his relatives and allegedly urged family members to raise the said amount of money to enable him regain freedom.

He was also said to have pleaded with his church, the Redeem Christian Church, to intensify prayers to ensure that he is not hurt.

A family source who pleaded anonymity, said, “I urge the authoritie­s of NSCDC to intensify efforts to ensure that Eguavoen and his colleague are returned safely”.

NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Efosa Ogbebor, said security agents were combing the forest to ensure that they are released unhurt.

Meanwhile, the state Commission­er of Police, Danmallam Mohammed, said a combined team of security agents is being put in place to apprehend the kidnappers.
