NSCDC launches Agro Ranger Special Squad Unit in Yobe

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC) has launched Agro Ranger special squad Unit in Yobe state to checkmate criminal activities and improve security across the state.

Speaking while lunching the squad in Damaturu on Thursday, the Corps Commandant­General, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, said the Agro Ranger squad, establishe­d last year, was created purposely to curb clashes between farmers and herders.

"It will also protect agro align property, condone, search and to end other insurgents’ activities in the country," he said.

The Commandant­General, who was represente­d by Assistant Commandant General zone C, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, said that the initiative was a nationwide programme involving 5,000 personnel.

He implored the team of trained personnel in the special squad unit to discharge its duties base on the training they received.

Yobe state governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni, who stood in as guest of honor, said the state government is doing its best to bring to an end the clash between farmers and herders in the state.

The governor, represente­d by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Agricultur­e, Alhaji Mangarima, said the state government had convened a retreat on agricultur­e where a forum was created for herders and farmers to settle contending issues and ensure food security in the state.

He commended the NSCDC for coming up with the initiative and assured continued to support of the programme to ensure peace reigns in the region.

The NSCDC Commandant, Yobe state Command, Ayinla Olowo, said the special squad is made up of indigenes of the state who understand the local languages and the terrain to ensure better result.

He charged members of the squad to discharge their duty diligently, while appealing on the state government to provide them with operationa­l vehicles, office and allowances to serve as an encouragem­ent.
