NDLEA arrests drug dealer with 296.8kg of cannabis in Gombe

The Gombe State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcemen­t Agency (NDLEA) said it has arrested a 28-yearold man with 296.8 kilograms of cannabis, popularly known as Marijuana or Indian hemp.

NDLEA Commander in the state, Mr Aliyu Adole, stated this yesterday in Gombe while parading the suspect, Ismail Yusuf before newsmen.

He said the suspect was arrested in the early hours of Thursday (yesterday) around 4am in his house with the substance, which is strongly suspected to be cannabis.

“We went out for an operation early this morning and we successful­ly arrested a big drug dealer in Gombe metropolis. We have been monitoring him for some time and we were able to arrest him today and seized 296.8 kilograms of cannabis, about 341 blocks,” he said.

According to the commander, the arrest is the second within the last three months by the command. He said: “This is the second time in three months that we have arrested a suspected hard drug dealer with high quantity of drug. The last suspect was arrested with 321 kilograms of hard drugs which is about 401 blocks.”

Mr Adole called on residents of the state to assist the agency in the fight against drug abuse by giving useful informatio­n.

In an interview with newsmen, the suspect, Ismail Yusuf, said he got supply of the cannabis from his boss who is based in Abuja, claiming it was the first time he was involved in hard drug business.

According to him, he ventured into the business in order to acquire enough money to take care of his two pregnant wives and three children.
