Almajiri school integration: Kano govt inducts 600 teachers
In a bid to actualize early integration of Sangaya/ Islamiyya schools into the conventional school curriculum, the Kano State government has inducted 600 volunteerteachers to be deployed to 393 schools across its 44 local government areas.
The teachers, according to the government would teach English and Mathematics lessons on Thursdays and Fridays at the Quranic/ Sangaya schools in order to build the capacity of the students in both verbal and quantitative reasoning.
The initiative, Daily Trust gathered is aimed at preparing students of Quranic schools for further education even in conventional schools in the future.
Presenting letters of appointment to the volunteeryesterday teachers at the Government House, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, represented by the Head of Service, Dr Kabiru Shehu, said the initiative was part of the free and compulsory basic education programme of his government.
“This is an affirmation of government’s resolve to ensure that education is provided to all and sundry free, but then compulsorily. This is one of the occasions that signifies government’s resolve that it is no longer business as usual, government is committed to ensuring that all schools get government intervention at all levels from junior secondary schools to primary schools.
“Today’s occasion is the launch of a teaching programme which is supported by BESDA, which is in the business of ensuring that we provide best education to all and sundry. The government of Kano State is indeed into the BESDA programme; that is why we have started with 600 volunteer-teachers at the initial process of the education programme,’’ he said.
He said government had concluded plans to employ 3000 more teachers to drive the integration process, including other subjects.
The Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Education, Hajiya Lauratu Ado Diso, while commending the government for the initiative, said students of Quranic schools would now be issued certificates on completion of their studies, urging parents to support the programme for the development of their children.
