Why Plateau Rocks are struggling in Zenith Bank b’ball League - Umeh

- By Olusola ‘Jide @jide_olusola

The Captain and Power Forward, Plateau Rocks, Gloria Umeh has said her team is struggling to win games in the ongoing Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League because they are not playing at full strength

Speaking with Daily Trust at the Indoor Sports Hall of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Umeh said they didn’t show enough commitment in their last match which they managed to win 54-49 against Kaduna Angels.

“We are at a disadvantage as regards the size of our team. We are not complete as we lost two players to Airforce recruitment, and so we are playing with 8 players against teams of 12. But we have come out successful, we only lost 3 games.

“No matter how good you are, if you don’t come out to rest even if it’s just for a minute or two, it will tell on you. It is not the best but we have been trying,” she said.

Speaking expressed optimism Plateau that Rocks will do well in the National Final 8 in Lagos but maintained that something must be done to beef up the squad.

“I foresee a similar problem in Lagos but we shall write NBBF to allow us replace the players we lost and with that we are good to go.

“We have played this game for a long while and I can read this game that we are good to go in Lagos.

She also expressed her desire to play for the national team in the nearest future.

“I have been playing basketball for 17 years but never played for the national team. I was in a national camp before this league began. I am close to playing for the country,” she concluded.
