2.5m registered voters for Bayelsa, Kogi polls — INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that there are 2,467,088 registered voters for the November 16 governorship elections in Bayelsa and Kogi states.
The commission said 1,646,350 registered voters are for Kogi state, while 867,088 are for Bayelsa state.
The commission also said that a total number of 1,485,828 of the registered voters have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Kogi state. INEC’s National Commissioner in charge of Kogi, Nasarawa and Kwara, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this yesterday in Lokoja at the presentation of the soft copy of the register of voters to the 23 political parties listed for the November election.
According to him, the commission’s official Register of Voters used for the 2019 general election will be used for the November governorship election.
Daily Trust reports that the registered voters consist of 825,663 males and 820,687 females.
Senatorial distribution of the figure indicates that Kogi East tops with a total of 808,715 registered voters representing 49%, followed by Kogi West which has 432,515 representing 26% while Kogi Central has 409,120 voters representing 25%.
For Bayelsa, the INEC National Commissioner supervising Bayelsa, Edo and Rivers states, Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu, made disclosure in Yenagoa during the official presentation of voter register to 45 political parties contesting in the election.
Agbamuche-Mbu, who presented the soft copies of voters’ registers to the political parties, explained that the document revealed the number of registered voters in polling units, registration areas, local government areas and the state.
“This enable is to eligible voters to check their details and know the location of their polling units. Submit your party agent on or before November 2, 2019 as the commission will not extend the deadline for submission,” she also stated.
