NBA seeks adoption of ACJA in Taraba

The President of the Nigerian Bar Associatio­n (NBA), Paul Usoro (SAN) has advocated for the domesticat­ion of the Administra­tion of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) in Taraba State.

The NBA president stated this during the training for legal and criminal justice practition­ers in the state on the implementa­tion of the Act in the state organized in partnershi­p with the MacArthur Foundation in Jalingo.

Usoro, who was represente­d by the National Assistant Publicity Secretary of the NBA, Akorede Habib Lawal, commended the interface between the Bar and the Bench which was evident in the number of High Court Judges including led by the Chief Judge of Taraba State and other judicial officials to the workshop.

Also, the Project Coordinato­r of the NBA-MacArthur project, Victor Abasiakan Ekim Esq. stated that the cardinal roles of the NBA is the promotion of public interest advocacy. He highlighte­d the limit placed on the uniform applicatio­n of the new law which empowers all states to make own laws.

On the Approach and Activities in Taraba State, the Project Coordinato­r stated that, the NBA shall provide capacity developmen­t and continue legal education for legal and criminal practition­ers and the general public using e-learning Platform and the training of State-level ACJ Trainers.
