Confirmed cases now 44

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria yesterday rose to 44. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said four new confirmed cases were recorded.

The centre said: “Till date, cases have been confirmed, two cases have been discharged and one death from COVID-19 recorded in Nigeria”

The NCDC said of the four new cases reported yesterday, one was from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), one in Lagos State, one in Ogun State and one in Bauchi State.

The centre said all the new cases have mild to moderate symptoms and were currently receiving care.

“A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC), activated at level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities, it said.

Meanwhile medical supplies from Jack Ma Foundation has arrived Lagos.

An Ethiopian Airlines Freighter yesterday landed at the Murtala Muhammed Internatio­nal Airport (MMIA) to deliver medical supplies from the Jack Ma Foundation.

The foundation donated the supplies in support of the COVID-19 response in Nigeria.

The flight landed at 3:20pm, hours after the closure internatio­nal airports by Nigerian government.

Daily Trust reports that the government had given exemption to flights on humanitari­an aids, medical and relief flights.

The Director-General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Musa Nuhu, had listed the various exemptions to include “aircraft in state of emergency; over flights; alternate aerodromes identified in the flight plan (including those being used for extended diversion time operations); technical stop where passengers do not disembark; cargo flights and other safetyrela­ted operations.
