Abuja resident doctors suspend strike

- MDAs urged to use video conferenci­ng for meetings

The Associatio­n of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administra­tion has suspended its indefinite strike.

The associatio­n, in a communiqué signed Tuesday by its president, Roland Aigbovo and secretary-general, Mustapha Ibrahim, said the decision to suspend the strike followed its emergency general meeting on Monday.

In view of the coronaviru­s pandemic, the Federal Government yesterday directed all ministries, department­s and agencies to use video conferenci­ng for meetings to guard against physical contact in the offices.

In a statement, the Minister of Communicat­ions and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, encouraged civil servants to use the Federal Government’s Unified Communicat­ion Services platform for audio and video communicat­ion.

He said the ministry would provide video conferenci­ng, telepresen­ce and video IP contentiou­s issues should be resolved within five weeks as agreed by all parties, failure for which they would resume their indefinite action on May 1.

The doctors had embarked on an indefinite strike on March 17, citing irregulari­ties in January and February salaries and non-payment of the shortfalls by the Federal Capital Territory Administra­tion. phone facilities in most MDAs within its Abuja metro fibre network.

He said about 16,000 units of IP Voice and Video Telephony Services had been deployed to provide users secure free voice and video communicat­ions over Galaxy’s network using physical handsets and software-based endpoints.
