Policeman kills couple, commits suicide in Imo

- From Jude Aguguo Owuamanam, Owerri

An anti-riot policeman attached to Police Mobile Force 29 (29 PMF), Awka in Anambra state has committed suicide after killing a couple over a broken relationship.

Our correspondent gathered that the policeman, identified as Inspector Kenneth Enamika, had allegedly falling in love with a woman, identified as Oluchi Aputanze, whom he intended to get married to.

But unknown to him, Oluchi was already married to one Cajethan Aputanze.

However, attempts by the policeman to get back his N150, 000, which he had allegedly given to Oluchi, prior to his discovery, was rebuffed as even Oluchi’s husband threatened to kill him, it was alleged.

It was further gathered that unable to bear both the loss of the love of his life and money, Enamika travelled from his base to Mgbidi in Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State, where the couple lived, killed both of them before shooting himself with his AK47 service rifle.

The spokesman of the police in Imo State, SP Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident, said that one of their neighbours, identified as Aloy Eze at about 2.45 pm on March, 22, reported to Oru West Divisional Police Headquarters that he returned home only to meet the corpses of three people behind his house.

According to him, “Upon the receipt of the report operatives of the division moved to the scene and met corpses of the following people; Oluchi Aputanze, Cajethan Aputanze and Inspr Kenneth Enamika (attached to 29 PMF Awka, Anambra state)”.

He added, “One AK 47 was also recovered from the scene, as well as a note declaring intent to kill Oluchi and Cajethan Aputanze and also commit suicide, and further claiming that the late Oluchi Aputanze obtained N150,000 from him, claiming she was single and accepted to marry him, only for him to discover that she was actually married to the late Cajethan Aputanze. He also claimed that in an effort to recover his money, Cajethan Aputanze (Oluchi’s husband) threatened to kill him through diabolical means, as a result, he resorted to self help, i.e. murder/suicide”.

Ikeokwu said the remains of the three persons have been deposited in the mortuary while investigations into the act have commenced.
