Yobe distributes agricultural inputs to 2000 farmers
Yobe state government has commenced the distribution of agricultural inputs to not less than 2000 farmers for 2020 farming season.
The items were procured and donated to the state government as support by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The distribution was in line with the UNDP stabilisation programme for areas worse hit by Boko Haram insurgency.
Inputs distributed comprised of improved seedlings of millet, sorghum, maize, rice, cowpea, groundnut as well as fertilizer (NPK), liquid fertilizer, insecticide, herbicide, and knapsack sprayer.
While flagging off the distribution of the items in BuniYadi, Gujba Local Government Area, Governor Mai Mala Buni advised the beneficiaries to harness the potential of the relative peace restored and cultivate their farms to provide livelihoods to their families.
Represented by the state Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya, the governor said government was committed to making life more comfortable for her citizens after the devastating effects of the Boko Haram crisis and the current coronavirus pandemic.
He said the state has procured food items in addition to other palliatives received from donors and supporting partners for distribution to the people across the State.
In her remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Mairo Amshi, called on the beneficiaries not to sell the items but put them to use.
