University donates foodstuff to host communities
As part of its corporate social responsibility, the Federal University, Gashu’a (FUGA) has through the state COVID-19 committee, donated foodstuff worth N500,000 to its host communities in Bade Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Items donated consisted of bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, and gallons of vegetable oil.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Andrew Haruna, said the donation was to complement the efforts of the state government to curtail the negative effect of COVID-19 pandemic the state.
“We are very much concerned of the uncommon phenomenon of coronavirus across the world, which necessitated total lockdown and crumble economies of most nations and states,” Haruna said.
In his remarks, the Chairman state committee for prevention of COVID-19, who is also the Deputy Governor, Idi Barde Gubana, noted that the food items would support the most vulnerable people of the emirate especially in this period of border closure.
According to him, Bade is considered as one of the four high risks COVID-19 areas in the state.
